Do You Want to Make Money Blogging?

If you want to make money blogging, you may want to ask yourself a few questions before you go on this path. It will be a long journey and it is going to test you. It will take a long time before your blog becomes popular enough, let alone profitable.

Although a blog can be profitable, it is hard to get to that point. Blogging is not a get-rich-quick type of thing. If you need money fast, it’s better to just get a job or do some quick freelancing. But if you really want to create a blog, here are some guidelines to keep in mind.

In order to attract readers to your blog, you have to have a general theme in mind. You must try to stand out from other bloggers, and find our voice, so to speak. Can you offer unique insights? If you plan to try out products and services, can you give them a honest review? Do you plan on developing a community or are you just writing for the sake of writing? In most cases, blogs will take at least a year, if not several to become popular enough to have consistent readership. Many blogs that are popular now were started several years ago. Yes, it really does take that long to get noticed.

If you plan on making money, you need a plan for monetization. The first thing you need, if you do plan on making money with your blog, is your own website. Blogging on a free platform such as Blogger or WordPress (the free one) is restricted and often times, any effort to monetize the blog will result in termination of your account. You want your own domain, so you can retain full control over all aspects of your blog.

It’s also a good idea to pace yourself. Putting tons of blog posts on your website, only to see that no one reads them can be discouraging to most people. If you want readers, you have to get your blog out there. That means you need to market and advertise your blog in some way or else no one will even know your blog exists. The readers don’t just magically appear, you need to first let them know about what you have to offer. With enough time and marketing, your blog will eventually get noticed and you’ll be able to profit from your hard work.
