how to advertise your businessEvery business requires a website in order to reach a wider audience but once you have your site up and running you also need to start promoting it and often one of the most disappointing things for people who have new websites is that very few people notice it.  Unfortunately no matter how great your business idea is unless you learn to effectively market your site properly you are never going to be able to establish a market presence on the Internet.

If you have recently developed an online presence and are thinking about how to advertise your business the following tips and techniques will be very useful:

Newsgroups.

Newsgroups is an electronic bulletin board where people with shared interests can communicate. Target only those newsgroups that cover the same topics associated with your business and generate interest by providing some useful advice and comments. Let it be known that your site has really useful and relevant information about that subject become an expert in your field in order to generate a following

Email lists.

It’s not easy to build a database of customers but there are a couple of ways of persuading potential clients to submit their information to you.  One way to develop your list is to ask potential and existing customers to submit their email address for a weekly prize draw, this list can then be used to announce new features on your website about your business. Running on site events is also great way to encourage repeat traffic, which can include contests games online interviews, chat sessions and audio broadcasts.

Newsletters.

These are a great tool to use reminding your customers you are there, whilst keeping them up to date about changes to your site as well as to providing information about your products and services.  We are all bombarded with junk and emails that we don’t even open which is why you need to make your newsletter as interesting and well written as possible in order to hold your customers attention.

Get Social.

LinkedIn, FaceBook and MySpace are all popular examples of some of the best network marketing opportunities that you can take advantage of in order to promote your business.  This kind of social marketing has grown over the recent years and can have a massive impact on driving organic traffic to your site.  More personal connections to more people is a good thing so hang out where your potential customers hang out and listen to what they talk about, then create your own profile and start your own community, creating a buzz around the products or services your business has to offer.

Promote offline.

Tell everybody who wants to hear that your business is on the internet, issue a press release which will enable you to reach customers through publications that cover your area and coordinate this with the launch of your website. Include your URL conspicuously on all of your marketing and sales material including your business cards, stationery advertisement, brochures, newsletters and product literature; anything that would normally contain your phone number should also contain your URL and email address.

Its important to realize how much the world really is changing in how we do business and the world wide web certainly has a lot to do with how we view business and our definition of what we consider to be a business or a product on the market.  If you are looking to promote your business via the web there is a lot to learn, consider hiring the services of a professional web site designer who will have experience in how best to market your business online.
